Cookie Policy

Last updated: May 12, 2026

This Cookie Policy explains what cookies are, which ones xml.now uses, why we use them, and how you can control them. By using xml.now you agree to cookies being placed on your device in accordance with this policy.

What is a cookie?

A cookie is a small text file placed on your device when you visit a website. Cookies allow the site to remember your actions and preferences over time so you do not have to re-enter them each time you visit. Cookies can be session cookies (deleted when you close your browser) or persistent cookies (stored until they expire or you delete them).

Cookies we use

1. Essential cookies

These cookies are required for the site to function. You cannot opt out of them.

Cookie	Purpose	Duration
`session`	Maintains your login state and stores temporary preferences (e.g. dark mode).	Session / 30 days if "Remember me" is checked
`csrf_token`	Protects form submissions from cross-site request forgery (CSRF) attacks.	Session

2. Analytics cookies (Matomo)

We use Matomo, a self-hosted, privacy-focused analytics platform. Matomo is hosted on our own infrastructure — your data is never sent to third-party servers. These cookies help us understand how visitors use the site so we can improve it.

Cookie	Purpose	Duration
`_pk_id.*`	Identifies returning visitors and tracks usage patterns across sessions.	13 months
`_pk_ses.*`	Tracks the current session (pages visited, actions taken).	30 minutes
`_pk_ref.*`	Stores the referring source (e.g. which website sent you to us).	6 months

You can opt out of Matomo analytics at any time using the opt-out below, or by enabling Do Not Track in your browser (Matomo respects the DNT header).

3. Advertising cookies (Google AdSense)

xml.now displays ads served by Google AdSense. Google uses cookies to show relevant ads based on your browsing history. These are third-party cookies set by Google's ad network (googlesyndication.com, doubleclick.net).

Common AdSense cookies include:

Cookie	Purpose	Duration
`__gads` / `__gpi`	Registers ad impressions, tracks which ads you have seen, and limits how often the same ad is shown.	13 months
`IDE`	Used by DoubleClick (Google) to build an interest profile and show relevant ads across websites.	13 months
`NID` / `CONSENT`	Google preference and consent cookies used across Google services.	6 months

To opt out of personalised advertising by Google, visit adssettings.google.com or install the AdChoices opt-out. You can also use the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

How to manage cookies

You can control and delete cookies through your browser settings. Here are links to instructions for the most common browsers:

Please note: disabling the session cookie will prevent you from logging in and may break some features.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
